Boiler Installation in Paterson, NJ: Who We Are and What We Do

We install gas, oil, and high-efficiency condensing boilers in homes across the area. Most of what we replace are systems that have hit the 20-to-30-year mark and started costing more in repairs than they’re worth. New boilers are dramatically more efficient, and rebates from the NJ Clean Energy Program help offset the cost.

When local homeowners hire us, here’s what they get:

We’re owner-operated. The person quoting your install is going to be involved in the actual work.

Signs Your Boiler Needs Replacing (Not Just Repairing)

Some clear signs it’s time for a new boiler:

Age over 20 years.
A 30-year-old cast-iron boiler can still work, but it's running at maybe 65% efficiency compared to a modern condensing unit at 95%. The energy savings alone often pay back the install over time.

Frequent repairs.
If you've put $1,500-plus into the system in the last two years, replacement is usually the smarter math. Honest contractors will tell you that, we will too.

Rising heating bills.
A boiler that's losing efficiency burns more fuel for the same heat. Bills creeping up year over year without rate increases is a sign.

Uneven heat or rooms that won't warm up.
A boiler that can't get the house up to temperature anymore is either undersized, scaled up internally, or just past its useful life.

Visible rust, leaks, or cracking.
Once a boiler starts breaking down structurally, repair isn't really an option. The whole unit has to come out.

Our Paterson Boiler Installation Process

  1. Free in-home estimate. We come out, look at the home and existing system, and walk through your options. No charge.
  2. Manual J load calculation. We size the new boiler to your actual home, square footage, insulation, windows, layout. Oversized boilers short-cycle and waste fuel. Undersized ones can’t keep up.
  3. Written quote. Equipment, labor, permits, and old-unit disposal broken out clearly. Fixed price.
  4. Installation. Most installs take one to two days. We pull permits, install the new boiler, do any piping work needed, and remove the old unit.
  5. Testing and walkthrough. Pressure test, combustion check, run the system, walk you through it. We register the manufacturer warranty before leaving.

What We Install

High-efficiency gas boilers (90%+ AFUE). Our most common upgrade. Brands like Weil-McLain, Buderus, Navien, and Lochinvar. Most qualify for NJ Clean Energy Program rebates.

Standard-efficiency gas boilers (80–85% AFUE). A solid choice for older local homes where venting changes for a condensing unit would be expensive. Reliable, less complex, lower upfront cost.

Oil-fired boilers. Still common in older neighborhoods. We install new oil boilers and can walk you through a gas conversion if that fits the home.

Steam boilers. A lot of pre-1940 local homes still have steam systems. If the radiators and piping are in good shape, replacing just the boiler is straightforward.

Paterson Neighborhoods We Serve

We install boilers across all of Paterson. Eastside, Northside, Bunker Hill, Hillcrest, South Paterson, and Riverside. Every Paterson ZIP (07501 through 07524) is in our route.

The neighborhoods around Lambert Castle and the Great Falls National Historical Park have a lot of pre-war housing stock with original or second-generation boilers. Hillcrest and the Eastside lean a bit newer, with hot-water systems from the 1960s and 1970s that are now hitting replacement age.

Why a Properly Sized Boiler Matters

Most homeowners assume bigger is better. It’s not. An oversized boiler short-cycles, it heats the home too fast, shuts off, then has to fire up again a few minutes later. That wastes fuel, wears out parts, and creates uneven heat.

An undersized boiler runs constantly trying to catch up. It can’t keep the house warm in a cold snap, and it burns through parts faster.

Manual J load calculations factor in your home’s square footage, insulation, window quality, ceiling height, and layout. That’s what we use to spec the boiler. It takes an extra hour during the estimate, but it’s the difference between a system that runs efficiently for 20 years and one that gives you problems from day one.

NJ Rebates and Financing

The New Jersey Clean Energy Program offers rebates on qualifying high-efficiency boilers. Current amounts typically run $500 to $1,500 depending on AFUE rating and other factors. We handle the rebate paperwork.

Financing is available on new installations. We can structure plans so the monthly cost is manageable. Ask about current options when we come out for the estimate.

What an Installation Day Looks Like

Here’s how a boiler install at your Paterson home goes.

We arrive in the morning with the new boiler and equipment. The first hour goes to setup, gas off, water off, electric off, drop cloths down. Then we drain the old boiler and disconnect it from the supply and return piping.

Removing the old boiler is the messiest part. Cast-iron boilers are heavy, and corroded fittings sometimes need persuasion. We allow time for it.

The new boiler goes in next. Set, level, connect supply and return piping, run the gas line, install venting, and wire up the controls. Most installs include a new circulator pump, an expansion tank, and updated piping near the boiler.

Then the system fill. Purge air from each zone. Fire up the boiler and run a combustion analysis. Test every thermostat and zone, verify everything is talking to everything else, and walk you through how to operate the new system.

Most single-day installs finish before dinner. Conversions (oil to gas, standard to high-efficiency with new venting) typically need a day and a half.

What We Don't Do

We don’t sell systems you don’t need. If your existing boiler can be repaired and has years of life left, we’ll say so.

We don’t oversize. Bigger isn’t better, it short-cycles, wastes fuel, and wears out parts faster. Manual J load calculation is part of every install quote we give.

We don’t skip permits. Paterson requires a permit for boiler replacement. Unpermitted work creates problems with home insurance, home sales, and code compliance.

We don’t vanish after the install. The new boiler is warranty-registered before we leave, and we’re around for service calls down the road, same number, same team.

Why Proper Sizing Matters

Most homeowners assume bigger is better. It’s the opposite for boilers. An oversized boiler:

An undersized boiler runs constantly and still can’t keep up in cold weather. It burns out faster and never quite gets the home warm enough.

Manual J load calculation is the right way to size a boiler. It accounts for square footage, insulation, window quality, ceiling height, and orientation. Done right, it’s the difference between a system that runs efficiently for 20 years and one that gives you trouble from day one.

We do Manual J on every install. It takes an extra hour during the estimate. It’s worth it.
